According to the new legislation, every smoke alarm in the home must:
- Be photoelectric and compliant with AS 3786-2014
- Be less than 10 years old and operate when tested
- Be hardwired or have a non-removable 10-year lithium battery
- Be interconnected with every other smoke alarm in the dwelling so all activate together
- Be installed in every bedroom, hallway and on every level of the home.
